Renault 5 GT Turbo

Renault has quite an impressive back catalogue of Hot Hatches to its name, and it all started with this, the Renault 5 GT Turbo.

First registered in Slovenia in 1985, this Phase One is thought to be the oldest surviving example in Europe and is in wonderful condition.

Not to be mistaken with the mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo, the GT Turbo is a more conventional Renault 5 layout but is powered by a 1.4 Turbo engine and was fitted with many other upgrades over its standard siblings such as wider wheelarches and side skirts, lowered suspension, faster steering rack, deep bolstered seats and lots of other little touches.

Still wearing its original Electric Blue paintwork, this GT Turbo is largely original and has remained completely standard over its 133,000 kms. The original 6-slot alloy wheels have benefitted from a refurbishment, however, and two dash panels have been re-trimmed in black Alcantara.

The engine, gearbox and turbo have all also received a complete recent rebuild by a specialist and the result is sublime. The car is an absolute blast to drive and the ‘Hot Hatch’ badge could not be more appropriate.

The car is presented with a large and comprehensive history file charting its journey to Ireland and represents a rare opportunity to obtain an early and unmolested example of one of the wildest hatches produced in the ‘80s.

Viewing strictly by appointment. All cars supplied with valid NCT where appropriate.
