In a world where fast off-roaders are now a dime a dozen, one of the category’s earliest protagonists still shines bright 25 years after its 2-year limited production run of 2500 examples ended.
Built as a homologation special for the Paris-Dakar Rally’s T2 class, the Pajero Evolution was based on the 2nd generation of Pajero but was adorned with a host of mechanical and aesthetic upgrades.
This early production 1997 example with just 105k kms on the clock was a Grade 4 car from Japan when imported to the UK a number of years ago and has since been owned by a collector here in Ireland.
The bulging Munich Silver metallic bodywork is in wonderful condition and appears to be in largely original condition with only minor defects. A set of Ralli Art mud flaps add to the Pajero Evo’s motorsport credentials.
The interior is of the same high standard with its bolstered Recaro seats and original floor mats, and an aftermarket double-din radio has been fitted.
The heart of the Pajero Evo is its 3.5 V6 Mivec petrol engine with 280bhp mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and a beefier drivetrain and more agile suspension set up designed to tackle the toughest of terrain.
An impressive example of a rare 4×4 with genuine motorsport credentials that can transport you in comfort and still tow 3.5 tonnes.
