Mercedes C126 500 SEC

The size, refinement and performance of the C126 SEC (W126 for saloon) were unparalleled back in the day and this 500 example is pretty special.

Finished in Silver Blue Metallic over grey lowers with cream leather interior, this 1988 SEC is a wonderful example of Mercedes’ flagship executive coupe.

The car presents beautifully in all departments, despite its surprising mileage of 166k, and sits perfectly on its ‘Manhole Cover’ wheels.

The heated electric cream leather seats and mahogany wood trims are in wonderful condition and the ‘over-engineered’ build quality is apparent in all of the controls and switches which have a beautiful mechanical feel. An upgraded Becker radio with remote control sits proudly in the dash, too, and a Parrot phone system has been discreetly installed.

On the road, this 500 SEC is a beautifully driving car with supreme comfort and refinement from that super smooth 5.0 V8.

In the last 2 years a huge amount of work to the tune of nearly €10k has been carried out by a Mercedes specialist to keep the car in peak condition. The extensive list includes new brake line flexis, new rear brake callipers, new dampers and springs front and rear, new fuel pumps and lines, new door/window seals plus a major engine and gearbox service.

Reassuringly, the sometimes-troublesome rear parcel shelf has also been replaced in the past which is a huge bonus.

The SEC is an increasingly popular every day executive classic, and this 500 is hugely impressive.
