Conceived as an attempt to return the Alfa Romeo brand to its sporting heritage in the late 1980s, the SZ (Sports Zegato) has long been celebrated as a design icon.
This late-production 1991 example (number 852 of 1036 produced) has been truly loved and protected over its lifetime and mere 30,000 kms on the clock.
The resplendent red bodywork was treated to a full respray by composite experts, TVR, and all other areas of the car score incredibly highly. The triple headlights, louvred bonnet and squat rear-end are all flagship elements of the SZ and the drama is only amplified when seeing the car in person.
The interior is equally dramtic with its distinctly ’80s designed bucket seats, rear luggage area and sprawling driver-focussed dashboard. The beige leather and carpets are beautiful contrast to the red and black exterior, too.
The legendary Busso 3.0 V6 engine sits up front and is a joy to drive with its 207bhp and 5 speed manual gearbox.
A previous owner carried out some important upgrades in the past includling suspension and brakes and within the last 12 months the car received a new starter motor and major service.
An Alfa Romeo SZ is a rare sight, particularly on Irish roads, and a pristine 30k km example like this even more-so.
