When we think of Saab, we inevitably think of the cult classic 900 which owes its iconic and counter-culture design to this – the Saab 99.
Having received a recent full nut and bolt restoration to an impeccable standard, this 1972 car is nothing short of flawless and is the easily the best example we have ever seen.
The already sound body was completely media blasted and beautifully repainted inside and out in Lagoon Blue while the underside was fully stone chipped and painted in the same 2k paint. No stone was left unturned in the quest to make this Saab as factory fresh as possible, either, with anything that needed replacing or refurbishing being carried out.
Some subtle cosmetic upgrades were fitted, too, including USA style front head lights and a set of pristinely refurbished and hugely desirable EMS soccer-ball alloys.
The retro interior has also been treated to a full retrim in the original factory material (using possibly the last role of fabric in existence) while an upgraded genuine Saab sports steering wheel was fitted and an original factory radio was sourced and fitted.
The 1854cc engine and 4-speed manual drivetrain wasn’t overlooked, either. The carb was rebuilt, a new timing chain and tensioner, new clutch and master cylinder, new pipes and hoses were all fitted as well as a new stainless-steel exhaust system.
The brake callipers were also rebuilt and the discs were replaced with new items.
Early Saab 99s are hard found, especially in this incredible condition, and are proving to be a fast appreciating classic.
