With the rise in demand for early short wheelbase 911s, the smaller engined, but nearly identical, 912 has risen in popularity, also.
Using the same body and basic mechanicals as the 911, the 912 featured a smaller, lighter and more economical flat 4 engine from the last of the 356s in order to provide a more cost-effective car for the American market between 1965 and 1969.
Our beautiful 1968 model found its way to Ireland via Italy where it received a complete engine rebuild in 2018.
A full restoration has been carried out, too, but the car’s original specification has been retained including it spectacular Polo Red paintwork. And, in a nice change to the abundance of Fuchs wheeled 912s, this car wears its original steel wheels and stainless hubcaps.
The interior is just as beautiful as the exterior. The contrasting cream leather, beige carpets and original woodrim wheel ooze style and sophistication, while some tasteful tan leather luggage straps have been added to the rear seat area. It’s a lovely place to be.
In addition to the original engine, the car has also retained its rare magnesium gear box casing, too. The mechanicals, overall, have been maintained superbly and, as the result, the car drives incredibly well. In fact, the lighter weight and better weight distribution of the 4-cylinder engine offers better handling than a comparable 911, too.
This is a truly beautiful and desirable 912 that offers all the attractions of an early 911 for a fraction of the price.
