We often read about pristine ‘survivor’ cars that have lasted 30 or 40 years without being pulled apart or badly repaired, but what about a survivor that is still original and immacluate after nearly 50 years?!
The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a stalworth of the ’70s muscle car era and this remarkable 1977 car is a facelifted example with the sought after L78 400ci 6.6 litre V8.
Having been imported to the Ireland from the world reknowned company Trans Am Specialties in Florida in 2016, the car is of the highest standard and is in as-new condition with just 60k miles.
The original Bucaneer Red bodywork and decals are flawless and the car has been spec’d with a set of coveted Snowflake wheels in silver and gold. The presence this car has and the incredible condition it is in are hard to overstate.
The upgraded ‘Deluxe’ black vinyl interior is just the same. The seats, carpet, doorcards, gauges, trim are all in exceptional condition and the dash pad was described by Trans Am Specialties as “the best we’ve ever seen”. The machine-turned dash inlay screams ’70s Americana and all of the switches and controls work exactly as they should, including the original radio, factory optioned 160mph speedo and rear demister.
The car drives just as well as it looks, too, and is surprisingly smooth and refined with its 3-speed automatic gearbox. The air intake protruding throught the hood provides some all-important drama, too.
The car has an extensive history file including its original owners manuals and build sheets, and has just had an extensive mechanical refresh at James Deane Motors including a complete brake and suspension overhaul along with some other minor service work.
Pristine and original ’70s muscle cars are incredibly rare and this Trans Am must be one of the finest available on the market.
