AMG may have made their mark on a select few W140 S-Class Mercedes in the early 90s, but the W220 generation got the full AMG treatment with this – the S55.

Produced only between 2001 and 2005, the S55 was the ‘high-performance’ version of the beautifully engineered S-Class utilising the long-wheelbase chassis with all of the technology and features Mercedes could throw at it, but with a host of performance upgrades including that truly epic 5.4 supercharged V8 engine kicking out nearly 500bhp and a stonking 700nm of torque.

This remarkable 2004 example in Green Black Metallic has covered just 49,600 miles and is in truly exceptional condition having started life originall in Japan before being imported to the UK in 2024, and then Ireland in 2025.

The exterior is a perfect blend of sophistication and aggression with its sleek lines and iconic AMG wheels while the Anthracite leather interior is truly in a class of its own with a massive list of features including sunroof, heated and cooled electric rear seats, heated and cooled massage/dynamic front seats and so much more. A new amplifier and Pioneer radio have just been fitted, also, at a cost of nearly €2,000.

The ride quality of the W220 is sublime, too, and coupled with the AMG powertrain is a match made in Q Car heaven.

Having just had a major service, plus a new pulsating damper for the suspension, this S55 wants for nothing.

24 years on from its release, this S55 is a rare and incredibly impressive car by modern standards, and now available at a fraction of its original price tag when new.
