Mercedes R129 500 SL

The R129 marked a huge step forward in design and innovation over the R107 SL, and this 500 example is superb.

Built in 1993, this Japanese market SL was imported to the U.K. in 2009 and with just 71k miles, this 500SL scores excellently in all departments.

The Astral Silver over Silver lower panels and contrasting black leather make for a very attractive combination and is all in truly wonderful condition.

The soft top, factory hardtop and later 8-hole alloys are like new, while inside the heated, electric memory seats are presented as they should and make for a glorious cockpit to settle yourself for that long distance continental trip. 

The 5.0 V8 engine performs exceptionally well having had a major service with Terry Ryan Mercedes specialist to the tune of just over €5k. The weak point of these SL Mercedes is the timing chains which have been replaced, along with guides, ignition caps and leads. At the time the catalysts were replaced also. 

The extensive history file also shows that no expense was spared in the car’s maintenance over the years with new front springs and anti-roll bar fitted, a complete brake overhaul and maintenance to the roof system also along with replacement rear screens. 

The R129 is becoming increasingly sought after, and this wonderful 500SL provides modern creature comforts, big power and presence with all of the benefits of classic tax and insurance.
