The Lotus Esprit is one of those cars that looks fast even when standing still.
This 1988 X180 example (produced between ’87 and ’93) may share the same distinctive body lines of the earlier Series 1, 2 and 3 cars, but the edges are softer and the overall look is noticeably more modern.
Having undergone a restoration 5 years ago, the overall condition of this Esprit is excellent. The supercar styling is complimented by a full respray in Lotus black that still looks fresh, and the OZ Route factory wheels are perfect and unmarked.
Looks aside, one of the other big improvements the X180 has over its predecessors is its redesigned cabin which offers surprising space and comfort. The build quality is also a pleasant surprise, and the retro contrasting black and beige leather trim breaks up the space nicely.
Mechanically, this car has had significant recent work as well. The extensive history file shows that not only did the carburettors recently get overhauled, but the 2.2 high compression engine was also completely rebuilt just 5k miles ago.
This beautiful Esprit is a car that certainly punches above its (light)weight and is the perfect weapon for blasts on the backroads or, equally, long distance road trips.
