Ford Escort RS Cosworth

Homologation Specials are known for their audacious styling and punchy performance, and the coveted Ford Escort RS Cosworth delivers both in spades.

Finished in the awesome colour of Mallard Green metallic, this early production 1992 car is a wonderful example of the WRC icon and has been beautifully maintained in completely original spec.

The bulging arches and ironing-board spoiler of an Escort Cossie are unmistakable but, in fact, the car is actually based on the chassis of its big brother Sierra Cosworth to best accommodate the engine and drivetrain.

Being an early car there is no sunroof and no airbag, and under the rear seat you’ll find a water injection system which had to be fitted (although not functional) to meet Group A specifications.

The other noteworthy difference in spec to later cars is the bigger turbo which was later replaced with a smaller unit in 1994.

32 years after its production, this Escort Cossie is in truly wonderful condition and has recently just had a mechanical refresh to keep it in perfect operating order. A full service including timing belt, water pump, radiator, cam sprockets was carried out and a new gear linkage, internal radiator and fan were fitted. Not only that, but the car also benefitted from new balljoints, shocks and springs all around.

With 228bhp on tap from the 2.0 turbocharged engine, permanent 4wd and a light weight of just 1275kgs, the legendary status of the Ford Escort RS Cosworth is absolutely justified.

A rare sight on Irish roads and a very impressive early car that scores well in all areas.
