General Motors took to heart the flak about American cars not handling properly and launched the 1983 Corvette C4 into Europe with the confident claim that it could out-corner any European sports car.
Uni-directional tyres and wheels specially developed with Goodyear helped, and there was rack-and-pinion steering, aluminium double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, both sprung by unusual glassfibre transverse leaf springs and both with anti-roll bars. Big vented discs and some very clean looks, this was the corvette that GM always promised.
Presented in its original colour of Bright Red with red leather and factory hard top, this stunning 1989 convertible’s options can be verified by the RPO codes (options list) under the centre armrest.
An original Ohio car, the Vette stayed Stateside until recent years when it was imported by a prominent American car collector in Ireland.
The car has covered a mere 78k miles, and in the past couple of thousand miles the car has had considerable spend. Fresh relays, air mass meter, fuel pressure regulator, o2 sensors, new injectors and a major service.
The Atari digital dash was fully overhauled along with a new leather interior and rebuilt headlamp motors.
On the road, the 5.7 L98 V8 with 250 bhp and 470nm of torque pulls rapidly up the road and is super smooth. That distinct V8 burble with that wedge like shape is ever so Corvette and the cockpit is an extremely comfortable place to be with it’s low-slung driving position and plush bucket seats.
A rare car on Irish soil and most definitely one of the only digital dash convertibles, this is a rare opportunity to own a very usable fun classic with endless hours of top down cruising.
Complete with service history and two sets of keys we can’t see this Vette hanging around long.
Viewing strictly by appointment. All cars supplied with valid NCT where appropriate.
