The E36 M3 had big shoes to fill after the success of the E30, but its much anticipated arrival didn’t disappoint. New to the M3 line up were a convertible and a 4-door saloon, like this one.
In excellent overall condition, this 1997 M3 Evolution is finished in Techno Violet with pale grey leather interior which, we think, is a match made in heaven. The spec list also includes M Contour wheels and interior wood trim.
Being an Evolution model, it benefits from the much-coveted 3.2 S50 engine plus a Getrag 6-speed gearbox. Combined with the superb roadholding and comfort, it makes for an unbelievable driving experience in one of the last great analogue BMWs.
The extensive history file covering the car’s 86k miles is evidence of the how well the car has been maintained, too, and it has had a recent major mechanical refresh at a cost of €3500 using genuine BMW parts throughout including front and rear discs and pads, oil level switch, 3-piece clutch, spark plugs, air filter, pollen filter, front shock absorbers plus engine, gearbox and diff oil. The wheels were also refurbished and 4 new tyres fitted.
The car has been kept in pristine condition and we have noted that the driver’s side rear quarter panel has been previously repaired and painted to the highest of standards with any inspection welcome.
4-door M3 Evolutions are thin on the ground and this striking example is both mechanically and picture-perfect.
