Typical cars of the 1970s are often regarded as ponderous, poorly built, slow, uncomfortable…but, as always, there are exceptions like the BMW E9 3.0 CS qualifies as an exception. It was everything that most 1970s cars were not and even four decades later, this car still impresses.
This glorious 1973 3.0 is presented in Polaris Silver Metallic with beautiful blue velour interior and sits on period Alpina rims – a match made in heaven. Having had a full glass body restoration and refreshed interior (new door cards, wood restoration and carpets) at a cost of €50k some 6 years ago, the standard of finish is excellent.
The interior is much the same. The blue velour is beautiful and is a true testament to the quality of the material used by BMW in the 70s. The wood dash along with period MoMo steering wheel are just stunning. The car still feels as fresh as she did some 50 years ago.
Having been maintained by Tom Fahey in Galway and having had significant money spent on it in recent years, the car comes complete with a very large history file documenting the cars some 50 odd years on the road.
In 1973 she was a car way ahead of her time and now in the present day still symbolises class and sphistication. BMW did its job perfectly. Beautiful to look at but engaging to drive the result was one of the best all-around performers of its decade. A true classic that has stood the test of time.
Viewing strictly by appointment. All cars supplied with valid NCT where appropriate.
