And every once in a while, one turns up that makes you stop and question if you’ve just gone back in time.

This is a Volkswagen Jetta Mk2 TX — and quite simply, it’s one of the most original examples we’ve ever seen.

Showing just 21,994 miles, this car is a genuine time-warp piece. Finished in what appears to be its factory red matallic clear coat and we’d comfortably say 90–95% original paint, if not entirely original — the condition speaks for itself. The bodywork is outstanding, panel fit is exactly as it left the factory, and all the little details that usually let these down… are just right.

Underneath is where it really sets itself apart. The underside presents like new, exactly as you’d hope from a car with this mileage and level of care. No stories, no cover-ups — just a properly preserved car.

Inside, it gets even better.

The interior is trimmed in its original grey patterned cloth (often referred to as “Stripe / Scala cloth” in period Volkswagen terms), and it’s exceptional. Seats, door cards, headlining, carpets — all present as if they’ve barely been used. Even the rubbers, plastics, switchgear — the things that always age — are like new. It still retains its original factory radio, which is a rarity in itself.

The TX model sat nicely in the range — offering a bit more than the base car without overcomplicating things. Think upgraded trim, better interior finishes, and a more complete spec overall. Period road tests praised these cars for exactly what this one still delivers today: solid build quality, simplicity, and a driving experience that just feels right.

And on the road, that’s exactly what you get.
It starts on the button, drives beautifully, and pulls cleanly through the gears. No rattles, no fuss — just that unmistakable Volkswagen feel from a time when they built them properly.

We’ll say it honestly — we’ve seen a lot of these over the years.
We’ve never seen one as good as this.
