BMW E12 M535i

As the very first BMW M series produced car, the E12 M535i holds a very special place in the marque’s history.

Produced for only 15 months, just 1,410 examples were produced (450 being RHD) and were all hand finished at BMW Motorsport Germany in Europe. A further 240 CKD cars were produced in BMW South Africa.

This 1981 RHD example is resplendent in its Henna Red and has had a large amount of money spent on it in recent years, both aesthically and mechanically, with just 105k miles on the clock.

Presented in entirely original spec with its iconic M stripes, BBS wheels and boot spoiler, this M535i is glorious to behold and commands your attention.

In addition to the M features outside, BMW Motorsport also fitted Recaro bucket seats trimmed in the matching courdoroy of the rear seats, plus a steering wheel of a BMW M1. A modern radio is the only deviation from originality.

The 3.5 straight-six engine provides and glorious soundtrack thanks, in part,to a stainless exhaust, and dog-leg 5-speed gearbox is a treat to use as you grab another gear.

Its performance was impressive for its time, too, with 0-60mph achieved in 7secs and a top speed of 142mph.

As well as a some cosmetic enhancements in the last 4 to 5 years, the car has also benefitted from a suspension overhaul, brake overhaul, fuel system refresh and coolant system overhaul.

The result is a sympathetically restored car that is genuinely stunning to drive and commands respect wherever you go.

A wonderful example of an important M car that will find you making endless excuses to pop to the shop so you can get a quick fix.
